Previous Scholarship winners are ineligible.
SECURITY, PRIVACY & COMPLIANCE - Co-Chairs: Arturo Peralta, Mike Chirico, Jesse Fasolo
The Security, Privacy, and Compliance (SPC) committee was formed to address the ever-increasing need within the NJ healthcare provider and payer community for greater collaboration and education on information security, patient privacy, and regulatory compliance issues. In November 2009, the HITECH Interim Final Rule came into effect with regulatory mandates and Meaningful Use requirements for implementing greater security and privacy controls. The subsequent migration of hard copy to electronic medical records and interoperability resulted in more electronic protected health information (ePHI) locations and more connected medical devices. Since 2015, cybersecurity attacks have increased due to increased vulnerabilities, resulting in numerous breaches and threatening patient safety and lives. Recent ransomware attacks have resulted in extended network and application downtimes in several healthcare organizations. The purpose of the SPC Taskforce is to provide NJ healthcare professionals with a forum for collaboration and education. Through educational sessions focused on the most pressing issues in the world of information/cyber security, our goal is to increase awareness, share best practices and lessons learned, and serve as a convener for members interested in security, privacy, and compliance.
